Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Relationships:

Responsible to: Laboratory Director

Supervises:None

Interrelationships:Works cooperatively with laboratory director, laboratory personnel, medical staff, administration, other department directors and personnel, patients and the public.

Job Summary:

Responsible for the daily operations of the laboratory.Maintains and improves the level of patient care and standards of care in the laboratory and facility.Ensures compliance with established standards set forth by CLIA in the Code of Federal Regulations and the Department of Health and Environment.

Job Qualifications:

A BS in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Science or a BS in Biology and at least one year of training and experience in high complexity testing. Meet all CLIA-88 guidelines; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

An Associate of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology or Associate of Applied Science and at least one year of training and experience in high complexity testing.Meet all CLIA-88 guidelines; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates and Licenses:

Registered as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Registered as a Medical Laboratory Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Those graduating after 2004 are required to participate in 36 hours of continuing education to be in compliance for re-certification.
